Playing on an acoustic piano is an organic activities. We feel the mechanism of the piano keys, hummers, pedals, resonances and fading of tones. The 200 over sensors on every single finger tips would give wide range of tone colours when we play on the acoustic piano.
On the other hand, electric piano are using pre-recorded sound or midi sound. The sound “created” or “play out” through the speed of the key detected by sensors under the keyboard. The sound send out are rather flat and dull when compare with the acoutic piano.
Many people mention their children have achieve ABRSM Grade 8 practical exam but get confused why the children can only play the grade 8 pieces. What actually does Grade 8 means?
It is actually hard to define. But in our studio, all students obtained Grade 8 level could at least sight-read Grade 6 level pieces fluently. Which means the Grade 6 and above pieces are not only fully performed with high accuracy of rhythm and notes but also with certain emotional expression. Students also could pick up tunes and play it on the instrument with simple harmonising skill.
